IOW Fire and Rescue Service

HTP has been working with Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service since 2007.

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service employs 250 staff with a variety of training needs. In such an important sector it is essential that all staff members have the best possible operational efficiency whether it is in management, administration, control centre operations, health and safety or business support.

Initially HTP were invited to speak with the service with a view to helping them look at Maths and English qualifications and their wider Skills for Life strategy. The working relationship between the two organisations moved fast and HTP soon developed a bespoke Management training solution to help improve the success rates of service personnel achieving the standards required for the assessment centre exams that need to be passed to secure promotion.

In addition to Apprenticeships and NVQs in Team Leading, Management and Business Administration we now deliver in conjunction with the Fire Service the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Fire Service Operations in the Community. So far we have developed 21 Fire Fighters with another cohort starting shortly. Other Brigades allow their candidates up to 2 years to complete this qualification, however the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service supported us to deliver the workshops and complete the workbooks in just 9 months.

There success rate for completions is over 95% and their timeliness is also excellent.  To find out more about the training undertaken by Fire and Rescue personnel simply click on the video links below:

I would definitely recommend using HTP. Their work means we have more flexible and efficient staff. The effort they have put into catering for our needs means our staff have been given more opportunities and are therefore more motivated as they can see the direct benefits of training.
