Shanklin Hotel

HTP Training has worked with the Shanklin Hotel and its sister hotel The Trouville since HTP formed in 2000. Prior to this, HTP’s Managing Director Rachael Fidler worked with the hotels in her previous role with another training provider which demonstrates the long term and successful relationship which exists.

The company is proud to boast many success stories over the last decade with support to help develop potential talent in to successful business people with skills and knowledge to work at a high level within the industry.

Paul Moorman (Managing Director) has consistently been keen to give opportunities for staff to progress and success stories such as a part time waiter progressing through training to senior management, a plate washer progressing through to 2nd Chef are just a few of the accolades and a bar assistant progressing to duty management who won Isle of Wight Radio’s Apprentice of the Year in the ‘Isle of Wight Peoples’ People Awards’. Paul believes his staff have benefitted from support and development from HTP due to the professional and supportive approach HTP takes.

Currently the hotels have 13 learners with HTP - all have been given the opportunity to progress with the company to more responsible positions with some holding these; they range from a young apprentice who is 14 through to the Operations Manager who will be working on a management apprenticeship shortly and there are more due to start programme.

Paul sees the training and development of staff the key to improving hospitality standards and reducing turnover levels making for a professional and happy as well as successful work place. Over the years Paul instructed Gloria Holt (outgoing General Manager) with the coordination of training and development on his behalf and now that she has retired Paul has been pro-actively involved in supporting and encouraging staff to take up as many learning opportunities as possible.

Although Paul is a very busy person, he still makes time to mentor and support his staff and makes time to sit and discuss their training with myself. He is very interested in hearing how well they are doing and how far HTP feel they could progress. Paul also likes to the industry with the HTP training consultant and wants to hear our ideas on how he can improve his systems, procedures and staffing. Paul has decades of experience but is always willing still keen to evolve and move with the times and really values HTP’s opinions and recommendations.
