Training to a higher level

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where do HTP offer Apprenticeships?

HTP can deliver Apprenticeship training throughout Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. However, Genesis programmes are only offered on the Island and in the New Forest.

Am I eligible for an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are open to people of all ages (16+) although you must not already be in full time education, have already achieved Higher Education qualifications such as an HNC / HND or Degree and you must have been resident in the UK/EU or EEA for the last three years.

How do I apply?

Here are several ways to apply for an Apprenticeship with HTP:

  1. Call us on 01983 533926 to arrange an appointment where we can discuss the most appropriate route for you.
  2. Through your local Connexions Office or online at www.apprenticeshipsonline.org
  3. If you are already working, you can approach your employer to see if they are willing to support you to gain an Apprenticeship qualification with HTP.

How does the recruitment process work?

You will be initially interviewed by a member of HTP's team. From there we work together to source a suitable work placement for you and again this will involve an interview with your prospective employer.

How long does an apprenticeship take?

The duration for an Apprenticeship will depend on the qualification you undertake. The programmes are flexible so you can work at your own pace. Typically, a Level 2 qualification will take 12 - 15 months and 12 - 18 months for a Level 3.

How will I be paid and how much?

It is possible you may start your training as a "non employed" apprentice. If this is the case you can apply to receive EMA (Educational Maintenance Allowance). Generally though your employer will pay your wages and this will not be less than £80 per week if you are aged 16-17 and for other people on their first year of their apprenticeship. After this national minimum wage guidelines will apply.

How many hours will I be expected to work?

As an apprentice your weekly working hours will not exceed 40 hours, this includes time spent in "off job training" at HTP.

How do NVQs relate to other qualifications?

There are three levels of NVQ available through HTP:
