Learners

You said – we did

In order to provide excellent training that leads to success, HTP places the client at the heart of the learning experience by maintaining a regular dialogue between learners, employers and other stakeholders. To do this we use a range of formal and informal tools to gather feedback. Results are used to evaluate existing provision and identify areas for improvement to ensure HTP products and services meet the needs of all stakeholders.

Here we highlight just a few of your comments and suggestions and explain how we have responded.

"It is often difficult to fit in training and undertake exams because of shift patterns and the needs of the business".

(Fire & Rescue personnel, W. Sussex)

Many of the learners who undertake training programmes with HTP work unsociable hours, for example Fire and Rescue Service, NHS, car park and hospitality sector staff. To address this HTP has recently invested in more resources to ensure training and services are available at a time and venue to suit the needs of the individual and the employer. This means more exams can be taken in the workplace and for those who prefer to acquire knowledge and skills through independent learning a new range of contextualised learning materials are now available.

"More opportunities to get out and about and undertake personal health, and sports activities please"

(Foundation Learning student)

HTP has introduced a new activity-based programme as part of our Foundation Learning curriculum. Options include working with a personal trainer/sports therapist to improve personal fitness, circuit training, walking, improving nutrition and diet, team working and sports activities.

"We would like help to improve our Maths and English skills - but at a time which fits in with the demands of young children".

(Isle of Wight teenage Mums & Mums to be)

Together with these learners and associated organisations HTP has designed a flexible Maths and English support programme of between 3 and 18 hours per week at times to suit the individual and their commitments. Learners may also participate in other activities to help them plan and prepare healthy meals for themselves and their young family and give them the skills they need to manage their money.

"Young people would like to be able to access a wider range of Level 1 qualifications to provide them with vocational skills, knowledge and experience to enable them to gain employment or progress to further training".

(PA Connexions)

HTP has extended the range of accredited training at both Level 1 and Level 2 to enable young people to gain the knowledge, skills and qualifications employers are looking for. Subjects include: Health and Social Care • Accommodation Services • Food Preparation and Cooking • Food and Beverage Service • Child Care • Customer Service

"Sometimes it's hard for learners to make suggestions for improvement in front of other people ….. can we have a box for them to put suggestions for improvement in?"

(Training Consultant HTP)

At HTP we recognise that the best way to identify learners' needs and find out what they think about the training and services we provide is to ask them. However for some, giving a personal opinion or making suggestions for improvement can be quite daunting – so suggestion boxes are now available in all our training centres.
