A Young Apprenticeship is a new type of course which lets able and well-motivated pupils gain experience of real work.
The programme is two years in duration (Years 10 and 11) and pupils continue to study the core National Curriculum subjects, including English, mathematics, ICT and science, but they also pursue a Level 2 Multiskilled Hospitality NVQ, equivalent to 4 GCSE's at Grades A - C.
They learn through a mixture of classroom lessons, practical training and work experience.
Following completion of the Young Apprenticeship programme, candidates may find the vocational route is right for them and could choose to pursue a post-16 full-time Apprenticeship. With the experience and qualifications they have gained should help in completing these courses early.
If they don't choose to continue with an Apprenticeship, they can still follow other routes of learning as they will have completed the normal National Curriculum.
